My Old Eyes
My old eyes have seen many
of life's facets for many years
Some were filled with beauty
and some bore heartfelt tears
As I traveled through life's
wonderful journey every blessed day
Each memory is imbedded deep into
my heart where they forever stay
To sit at the side of an elder
and listen to them share
is where I learned about life
and was taught love and care
Life is not for self, but each moment
is meant to be shared with others
Keep the ones you love close in your life,
and call them sisters and brothers.
Let your knowledge be known and shared
to your youth in a caring way
Teach your children well, the way of
the olden days of love that retained each day
Let it be known of heartache and growing
pains each must endure to grow old
But share all the goodness of life's pleasures,
for this they must know.
With these old eyes growing dim,
I feel its an elders responsibility
to pass on all they know
Leave a good legend of trials and
tribulations and how your struggle
was to overcome and grow
For when all is said and done,
your spirit will still remain
And what you have shared they will
remember you Long after your journeys end
As the one they knew and
loved as teacher and friend
Because your legacy and life you shared .
